Polish PM Donald Tusk proposes new plan for Ukraine’s support

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has introduced a new plan aimed at securing additional financial and military support for Ukraine, urging European nations to take decisive action.

“Enough talk, it’s time to act!” Tusk declared in his address to European leaders, outlining key points of his proposal:

* Utilizing frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction;

* Strengthening air patrols, particularly through NATO’s “Baltic Watch” operation to protect underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea and enhancing border security with Russia;

* Implementing new fiscal rules to finance EU security and defense initiatives urgently.

So far, EU countries have only used profits generated from frozen Russian assets rather than the assets themselves to support Ukraine.

Tusk’s proposal follows a similar plan introduced by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on February 19, which focused on providing security guarantees for Ukraine and holding Russia accountable for war crimes.

Meanwhile, European leaders gathered in Paris this week for two summits discussing Ukraine’s future military and financial assistance.

According to Western media reports, Europe is currently considering deploying up to 30,000 troops in Ukraine, though not to the front lines but in strategic locations across the country. The United States is expected to support European forces in this effort.

Additionally, The Telegraph reports that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is set to visit the United States next week, where he will present plans for the potential deployment of European troops in Ukraine.
