TV channel founder rejects reports on his charing opposition party board

Nika Gvaramia, the founder of the opposition-minded Mtavari channel, who was pardoned earlier this year by the President after conviction last year for abuse of power while running Rustavi 2 TV channel, on Monday rejected media reports on his alleged chairing of a potential board in the United National Movement opposition party. 

 

He also rejected claims on his affiliation with David Kezerashili, the wanted former defence minister of Georgia by saying he was “no one’s cadre”. 

 

Nika Melia, the former UNM chair, on Monday said he would not get involved in talks over the new board in the main opposition group. 

 

He further claimed Kezerashvilli and Vano Merabishvili, the former Interior Minister of Georgia, were running the UNM “from the backstage. 

 

Gvaramia also held public posts under the UNM Government, which was in office between 2004 and 2012.
