Two Georgian volunteers fighting against Russia in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict have been taken hostage by Russian troops, Russian media outlets reported this week, identifying them as Giorgi Chubitidze and Giorgi Goglidze.

The Russian media, which called the captured Georgian citizens mercenaries, have aired a video of their alleged interrogation.

Independent sources from the International Legion in Ukraine have confirmed the information about the capture of two Georgian citizens, which is the first such case.

They said the volunteers had been captured in the Donetsk region last week.

Mamuka Mamulashvili, the head of the Georgian Legion fighting in Ukraine, told Radio Liberty the captured Georgian citizens had had no connection with his legion.
