Two more Georgians evacuated from Afghanistan

Two more Georgians were evacuated from Afghanistan yesterday who worked for a British company in the war-torn country.

 

One of the individuals, Zaur Jakeli, has told the Georgian Public Broadcaster that they are currently in Germany and that the company ensured their transportation.

 

Six Georgian citizens were evacuated from Kabul earlier this week via the Hungarian charter flight, after the Taliban seized control of the Afghan capital on August 15.

 

The Georgian Foreign Ministry stated that in total, 22 Georgian former soldiers were in Afghanistan who worked on contract for foreign companies, including the Canadian and American companies.

 

Situation got tense in Afghanistan after the US and NATO troops left the country per the agreement signed by the former US President Donald Trump and Taliban back in 2020.

 

Georgia, which was the largest non-NATO contributor to the alliance’s Resolute Support Mission, also withdrew its 850 soldiers.

 

32 Georgian soldiers have been killed and dozens injured in NATO-led peace missions in Afghanistan.
