Two major Moscow airports, Vnukovo and Domodedovo, were temporarily closed overnight due to a series of drone attacks launched by Ukraine, Russian authorities said. Kaluga Airport also experienced operational disruptions.
Open-source reports indicate that the attacks on Moscow came from three directions. Additionally, Ukraine targeted an ammonia plant in the Tula region and a train carrying military equipment.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the drone attacks, later updating the public that Russian forces had begun intercepting the drones.
According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, 61 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down by air defense systems. The ministry reported drone interceptions across multiple regions, including Bryansk, Belgorod, Kaluga, Tula, Oryol, and Kursk, as well as the Moscow region and the occupied Crimean Peninsula.
By morning, Russia’s aviation authority announced that restrictions on airport operations had been lifted, allowing Vnukovo and Domodedovo to resume normal activities.
