U.S. Embassy  calls on the authorities and the opposition to exercise maximum restraint in the wake of tonight’s ruling, given thatTbilisi City Court granted the motion of the Prosecutor's Office and sentenced Nika Melia, Chairman of the United National Movement, to imprisonment as a measure of restraint.

The decision was made by Judge Nino Chakhnashvili after the 6-hour trial.

"We call on the authorities and the opposition to exercise maximum restraint in the wake of tonight’s ruling. Violence serves no one except those who want to undermine Georgia’s stability. This must be resolved peacefully." – writes official page pf U.S. Embassy on Twitter.
