Congressman Joe Wilson invites Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili to Donald Trump’s inauguration

Congressman Joe Wilson, Chairman of the Helsinki Commission, has extended an invitation to Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili to attend the inauguration of former US President Donald Trump. Wilson praised Zourabichvili’s leadership, calling her “the only legitimate leader in Georgia.”

In a statement posted on social media, Wilson expressed admiration for Zourabichvili’s resilience: “I am in awe of her courage in the face of the assault by Ivanishvili and his friends in the CCP and Iranian regime.”

The invitation comes amid heightened tensions in Georgia, with ongoing protests and international criticism of the ruling Georgian Dream party, and its leader and founder Bidzina Ivanishvili. Zourabichvili has been increasingly vocal about democratic backsliding in Georgia and the need for Western support.
