The UK intelligence says that between 1,200-2,000 soldiers have been sent to Ukraine to fight from Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region, in a move which was unlikely to have been planned by Russia.

“Russia is deploying elements of its forces from Georgia to Ukraine. 1,200 to 2,000 soldiers are being reorganized into 3x tactical battalion groups,” the British Ministry of Defense said, noting that Russia was likely forced to do so due to unexpected losses in Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.

Hostilities have been in progress since then.
