Following a high-level meeting in Kyiv, European leaders called US President Donald Trump and agreed to give Russia a deadline to accept a ceasefire, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha wrote on social media.
According to Sybiha, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, spoke with Trump by phone after the "Coalition of the Willing" meeting in Kyiv.
"Ukraine and all of its allies are ready for a full, unconditional ceasefire on land, in the air, and at sea for at least 30 days, starting Monday (May 12)," Sybiha stated.
He added that if Russia agrees and effective monitoring mechanisms are in place, a longer ceasefire and confidence-building measures could pave the way for peace negotiations.
In response to the proposed 30-day truce, Russia is reportedly demanding a halt to Western arms deliveries to Ukraine. Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Ukraine continues to warn American citizens about a potential large-scale Russian attack. President Trump has urged both Russia and Ukraine to end the war.
