Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasily Bodnar, during a meeting with Charge d'Affaires of Georgia in Ukraine David Bochorishvili, handed him a note asking him to release the Ukrainian citizens detained on board the yacht.

"Vasily Bodnar called on the Georgian side to ensure a prompt and impartial consideration of the case of the detention in Georgia of a yacht with Ukrainian citizens Vladimir Dyachenko and Yuri Khomich. The Georgian diplomat was presented with a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on this issue and once again a request was made to change the measure of restraint and release these Ukrainian citizens." , – said in the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

In the context of Mikheil Saakashvili's recent statements, the Deputy Minister confirmed the official position of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry that the Ukrainian state does not interfere in the internal affairs of foreign states, and the private opinion of individual citizens should not influence the development of the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Georgia.

"Ukraine and Georgia, which are suffering from Russian armed aggression, must, in spite of everything, stick together in order to more effectively resist the Kremlin's threats and move together confidently towards NATO membership. Realization of this will make any attempts to damage our relations unsuccessful," he is quoted as saying Bodnar press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, the parties discussed in detail the ways of developing Ukrainian-Georgian relations and confirmed the intentions of the two states to strengthen the strategic partnership.

"Georgia is a strategic partner of Ukraine. It is important for us to develop political dialogue at high and highest levels, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, which corresponds to the interests of Ukraine and Georgia and our European integration and Euro-Atlantic aspirations," – Bodnar said.

The interlocutors outlined plans for the near future, including the implementation of the official visit of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia David Zalkaliani to Ukraine, preparation of the meeting of the bilateral commission on economic cooperation, as well as the organization of the official visit of the head of the Ukrainian government Denis Shmygal to Georgia.
