The Foreign Ministers of Poland, Estonia, and Latvia have confirmed Ukraine’s right to attack military targets located within the Russian Federation using Western-supplied weapons.
“Ukraine has the right to defend itself and, if necessary, to carry out strikes on Russian territory. Fortunately, more and more countries are recognizing this. We must give Ukraine the freedom to defend itself,” stated Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna during the informal summit of NATO foreign ministers held in Prague on Friday.
The meeting took place in the historic Czernin Palace, prominently flying the flags of the Czech Republic, Ukraine, and NATO. Latvian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis also expressed support for Ukraine’s missile strikes on Russian territory.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski emphasized Poland’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stating, “Poland has always supported and never imposed any restrictions on Ukraine’s attacks on Russian territory. According to international humanitarian law, Ukraine has every right to self-defense.”
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who attended the Prague ministerial meeting, echoed this stance. Additionally, it was reported on May 30 that US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use American weapons for strikes on Russian territory to protect the city of Kharkiv.
