Today, Ukraine celebrates the 32nd anniversary of its independence.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Act of Independence on August 24, 1991, declaring Ukraine as an independent, democratic state.

The Act of Independence was confirmed by a referendum held on December 1, when more than 90 percent of Ukrainians supported the independence of their country.

The next day, Ukraine’s independence was recognized by Canada and Poland, and then by other countries of the world.
