For the first time since the beginning of the year, Russian forces did not launch any drone attacks on Ukraine after midnight on April 1, according to Ukrainian authorities. The Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainska Pravda initially reported the development, citing data from the Air Force.
Later in the morning, Ukraine’s Air Force Command confirmed the absence of drone attacks in a social media statement. However, the military reported that Russia had launched two guided missiles towards the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia overnight. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed both missiles, the statement added.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported three attempted Ukrainian drone attacks on its territory overnight, all of which were repelled in the Bryansk region, near the Ukrainian border.
Since the start of 2025, both Kyiv and Moscow have regularly reported overnight drone attacks, with tensions remaining high amid the ongoing conflict. The brief pause in Russian drone activity comes as both sides continue to rely on unmanned aerial systems for reconnaissance and strikes.
There has been no official comment from Moscow regarding the halt in drone activity over Ukraine. Military analysts suggest that factors such as weather conditions, operational shifts, or strategic adjustments could have influenced the pause. It remains unclear whether this signals a broader shift in tactics or is merely a temporary lull in hostilities.
