Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the country’s state legislature, Ruslan Stefanchuk, congratulated his Georgian counterpart, Shalva Papuashvili on Georgia’s Independence Day which is marked today.

In a letter released on Thursday,  Stefanchuk thanked Georgian MPs for their support and solidarity expressed during the visit to Ukraine back in April of this year.

“On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and myself, I sincerely congratulate you on the national holiday of Georgia – Independence Day. I thank the Georgian parliamentarians for their friendly support to Ukraine during the most difficult period of its modern history,” Stefanchuk said.

He stated that he “greatly appreciated” the solidarity shown during the visit with the Ukrainian people “who are trying to restore peace and security on the European continent. I was very glad to have the opportunity to discuss with you the priority areas of inter-parliamentary cooperation.”

Stefanchuk stated that he expected that the recent visit and discussions would strengthen “mutually beneficial strategic partnership between Ukraine and Georgia and our progress on the path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration.”

At the end of the letter Stefanchuk wished the country stability and prosperity.
