Ukraine stands with Georgian people and reiterates its support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders, the Ukrainian foreign office said in response to the 15th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia 2008 conflict.

The social media post stressed the country’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions – a 20 percent of the Georgian territory – remained under Russian control.

The five-day war killed about 400, including 224 civilians, 170 servicemembers and 14 police officers, with 27,582 remaining internally displaced.
