Ukraine using cluster bombs “effectively” – White House

The White House National Security Adviser John Kirby on Thursday said Ukraine was using cluster bombs handed by the US “effectively” on the battlefield. 

“We have had some initial feedback from the Ukrainians, and they are using [cluster weapons] quite effectively,” Kirby said.

An Ukrainian official told The Washington Post earlier that day that Ukraine had already started using cluster weapons against Russia.

At the beginning of July, the Pentagon confirmed cluster munitions were in Ukraine. The decision to transfer them was made by US President Joe Biden.

The use of this type of weapon is prohibited by an international convention supported by more than a hundred countries. The USA, Ukraine and Russia did not join this convention.
