The 193 members of the UN General Assembly will tomorrow consider Ukraine’s proposal to allow President Volodymyr Zelensky to address world leaders gathered at the annual meeting next week via pre-recorded video.

“Volodymyr Zelensky will not be able to personally attend the meetings of the General Assembly due to the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine”, – it is noted in the appeal of the Ukrainian mission to the UN.

Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vasiliy Nebenzia, said on Wednesday that Russia opposes Zelensky’s right to speak via video.

“Zelensky travels around the country very well, but he can’t come here. If you can’t come, it means you have to send your representative to speak at the General Assembly,” Nebenzia told reporters.

According to the current plan, Volodymyr Zelensky should address the UN high-level meeting on September 21.
