Ukrainian defenders have liberated the settlement of Novoekonomicheskoe from Russian forces, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Monday.
“The gradual clearing of each street took two weeks. Assault units entered the settlement at night, carrying out coordinated attacks. On August 31, our flag was raised in the center of the settlement”, the General Staff reported.
Earlier, on August 31, it was confirmed that Russian occupiers had shot a civilian in the village, reportedly on August 28.
Novoekonomicheskoe is an urban-type settlement in Pokrovsk Raion, Donetsk Oblast, approximately 50 km from temporarily occupied Donetsk and 12 km from the Pokrovsk railway station.
On August 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian forces had achieved “very, very positive results” in Donbas, adding that Russian forces faced unpleasant “surprises”.
