Ukrainian ambassador to Georgia Igor Dolgov says that the Georgian government has nothing to do with the canceled flight which should have taken Georgian volunteers to Ukraine earlier this week amid hostilities in the country.
Dolgov has told Mtavari Arkhi that the charter flight was not agreed and it had no right to land.
He stated that in terms of diplomacy the position of Georgia towards the war is understandable, while his country is grateful for the support Georgia had ensured.
Dolgov was recalled by the Ukrainian president yesterday for consultations as Zelensky said because of Georgia’s refusal to join sanctions against Russia and the ‘government’s denial to allow a plane in Georgia’ which should have taken volunteers to Ukraine.
The Georgian government says that joining international sanctions against Russia will harm the Georgian citizens. However, noting that Georgia has expressed support for Ukraine in all international formats and also ensured humanitarian and all other aid which was needed.
