The Ukrainian sector was opened in Tbilisi Public School No.41 which will allow the Ukrainian children in Georgia to study in their mother tongue, the Georgian Education Ministry said.

In cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia, teachers for all subjects have been selected  both from those recently feeling Ukraine and local Ukrainian-speaking specialists.

130 students have been enrolled so far who will be able to receive secondary education in the Ukrainian language including the 11th grade.

The Ukrainian school in Georgia was established  back in 1999 at the request of the Ukrainian diaspora living in Georgia and the Embassy of Ukraine.

However, since 2011,, due to a low demand, the Ukrainian sector was practically suspended.

Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24 and the inflow of Ukrainians to Georgia, the Georgian Education Ministry decided to reopen the sector.

The Ukrainian Embassy to Georgia says that more than 20,000 Ukrainians are currently in Georgia, freeling the war.
