The Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia on Thursday confirmed the death of Nikoloz Akhvlediani, a Georgian volunteer fighting against Russia, near Bakhmut.

“Nikoloz Akhvlediani died while defending the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of Ukraine. Eternal memory to him!”, said the diplomatic mission.

Information about the Georgian volunteer’s death was spread by Georgian nationals in Ukraine on Wednesday.

According to available information, 40-year-old Akhvlediani was killed by a Russian artillery shell while defending a settlement near Bakhmut.

Fifty Georgian volunteers have been killed by Russian troops since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
