Head of the Ukrainian Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia, who is of Georgian origin, has dismissed the allegations of Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili over his “moves in Europe and the US” to hamper Georgia receive the EU candidate status, claiming that Garibashvili “is telling lies.”

Arakhamia responded to Garibashvili’s allegations late on Thursday, shortly after the PM’s speech in parliament, where he slammed the opposition and “their affiliates,” including Arakhamia, for “anti-state” activities.

“First of all, I was not in Europe. While in the US, I was formulating the concept that Mr. Ivanishvili [the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party] is a pro-Russian oligarch who has a puppet government that disappoints the Georgian people who want Europe.

“The recent large-scale rally in Tbilisi has demonstrated that Georgians are part of Europe. Everyone wants to be a member of the European Union. We, Ukraine, the Ukrainian government, will do our best to help Georgia join the EU, and please do not pay attention to the” fakes of the Georgian government, including the Prime Minister,” Arakhamia said via Telegram.

Garibashvili stated that Arakhamia and several members of the Ukrainian authorities had also raised “unfounded accusations over Georgia’s cooperation with Moscow,” and “have not presented any evidence” backing the allegations.
