Zelenskyy to visit US in coming days, meet Trump in Washington

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the United States in the coming days and is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday.

During his visit to Washington, Zelenskyy will also attend the funeral ceremony of Senator Lindsey Graham.

Zelenskyy and Graham maintained close ties, with the senator making his final visit to Ukraine just days before his death.

Graham, a long-time supporter of Ukraine in the US Congress and co-author of a bipartisan bill proposing tougher sanctions against Russia, died on the evening of 11 July.

Following his death, US lawmakers introduced an updated version of the bill, which calls for mandatory sanctions and tariffs against major buyers of Russian energy resources and individuals assisting Moscow in evading restrictions.

According to media reports, a vote on the legislation could take place next week, with 28 July - the day of Graham’s funeral - among the possible dates.
