Russia’s losses near Pokrovsk in one month surpass casualties of Second Chechen War

Russia has suffered more losses near Pokrovsk in a single month than during the entire Second Chechen War, which lasted from 1999 to 2009, according to Major Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Khortytsia operational-strategic group.

“In January alone, Russia had 7,000 irreversible losses near Pokrovsk. For comparison, according to official Russian data, they lost 6,000 troops during the entire Second Chechen War,” Tregubov stated.

He emphasized that Pokrovsk remains the most intense battlefield, with 54 military clashes recorded in the past 24 hours. Despite continued assaults, Russian forces have made little progress in the area over the past month.

Pokrovsk, a city in the Donetsk region, has become one of Ukraine’s key defensive strongholds in the east. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, a total of 133 engagements took place along the frontline in the past day, with Ukrainian forces successfully repelling 54 Russian attacks in the Pokrovsk direction.

Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported that Ukrainian defense forces neutralized 15,000 Russian troops in the Pokrovsk sector throughout January.
