On the night of December 19, Ukrainian defence forces launched strikes against several Russian military and economic facilities in the Caspian Sea, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Special Operations Forces.
Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian Project 22460 warship Okhotnik, which was patrolling near oil and gas infrastructure. Multiple drones attacked the vessel and the extent of the damage is still being assessed.
In addition, Ukrainian forces struck a drilling platform at the Filanovsky oil and gas field, owned by Lukoil. The platform produces oil and gas whose exports contribute to Russia’s budget and finance its war against Ukraine. The scale of the damage and the platform’s future operational capabilities are currently being evaluated.
The General Staff also reported the recent destruction of an RSP-6M2 radar system in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, which had been used to monitor air traffic and enhance enemy capabilities.
The Special Operations Forces highlighted that Ukraine continues to employ asymmetric tactics aimed at weakening the military and economic potential of the aggressor state.
