The United Nations has expressed concern over recent developments in Georgia, emphasizing the importance of respecting freedom of expression and peaceful assembly amid dispersal of protests sparked by the Government’s move last week to delay the country’s EU accession.

The UN Secretary-General’s spokesman,Stéphane Dujarric, called for the prompt and transparent investigation of all reports of human rights violations.

Dujarric further urged all parties involved to refrain from actions that could escalate violence and to seek resolution through dialogue.
