The UN says that every day, over the past 20 days since the Russian invasion of the country, more than 70,000 children have become refugees.

“That’s every minute, 55 children fleeing the country,” said James Elder, spokesperson for the UN Children’s Fund.

The UN states that some 1.5 million children have now joined the exodus from Ukraine, at a rate of just under one per second, since hostilities began on 24 February.

Kyiv says that since February 24 at least 79 children, 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers and 12,000 Russian troops have been killed, while over 2.5 million people have fled the country.
