Unemployment decreases by 50,600 individuals – Georgian PM

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, on Monday disclosed that unemployment in the country had plummeted by 50,600 individuals, marking a “significant stride towards economic recovery”, citing the National Statistics Office”. 

“Georgia’s employment landscape is experiencing a remarkable transformation,” stated Kobakhidze. “In the first quarter alone, unemployment has decreased by four percent compared to the previous year, resulting in a drop from 18 percent to 14 percent.”

Kobakhidze accentuated the surge in employment, with 89,400 more individuals finding jobs, representing a “remarkable 10.4 percent increase”, bringing the total employed workforce to 953,000. “Additionally, the self-employed sector has witnessed robust growth, with 40,500 more individuals joining its ranks, now comprising approximately 448,000 people”, he said. 

“Today, we stand with 228,600 fewer unemployed individuals,” Kobakhidze affirmed. “Our robust economic growth is driving these positive employment trends, signaling a prosperous future for Georgia’s workforce”, Kobakhidze Kobakhidze claimed. 

The domestic opposition claims the alleged decrease in unemployment in the country comes due to increased immigration rates.
