Unemployment rate surges to 22.1% in Georgia amid pandemic

The unemployment rate in Georgia has increased by 3.8% compared to the same period of the previous year and equaled 22.1% in the second quarter of 2021, the National Statistics Office of Georgia reported today. 

 

In the second quarter of the year the economically active population of Georgia constituted 51.4% which is 1.1% more than that was in the same period of 2020. 

 

The employment rate decreased in urban settlements by 0.5% and by 1.7% in rural settlements. 

 

The unemployment rate in urban settlements increased by 2.3% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, while in rural settlements that increased by 6.2%

 

The National Statistics Office says that the labour force participation rate (activity rate) is higher for men than for women.

 

 In the second quarter of 2021 the indicator for women was 40.7% and for men – 63.7%

 

The activity rate for women increased by 0.3% while for men – 2.0% compared to the same period of 2020.
