The United National Movement and Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition parties on Wednesday summed up their latest visit to the United States and claimed they had received promises from the  US organizations they would send an “unprecedented number of long-term observers” for the 2024 Parliamentary elections.

The opposition members also claimed they had highlighted the importance of Georgia obtaining the European Union membership candidate status in December.

“The US is not formally a decision-maker on joining the European Union, although the US is an important part of the discussions leading up to the decision,” the UNM leader Tina Bokuchava said.

She added meetings had been held with the IRI, NDI and USAID missions, which she said had pledged to be present with long-term observers at the next year’s elections.
