UNM opposition loses ‘guaranteed’ majority in Zugdidi city assembly

The United National Movement (UNM) opposition party has lost majority in Zugdidi city assembly after votes in four election districts of the 11th constituency was recounted yesterday per the demand of the Georgian Dream (GD) ruling party.
Zugdidi city assembly was the only after the first round municipal elections in which the UNM gained more seats than the GD.
After the first round of the race on October 2, the UNM candidate received two votes more that the GD candidate and the party gained a majority in Zugdidi city assembly.
After the recount of votes, the GD candidate went ahead with several votes.
After the mayoral runoffs on October 30, the UNM may still be able to form the majority in the city assembly.
The run-offs will be held in 20 of 64 election constituencies, including in Zugdidi, at the end of the month.
