The members of the United National Movement – the largest opposition party in the country – have contradicted each other over the individuals, who are “making influence on the party developments from the backstage,” after incumbent chair Nika Melia urged those figures to “come out from the shadow”.

In response to Melia’s comments on Monday, the party member Davit Kirkitadze said he “welcome everyone” who “are eager to strengthen the party”, making a mention of former defence minister, currently wanted David Kezerashvili and ex-interior minister Vano Merabishvili.

“Melia has already gotten into the habit of speaking half-heartedly and with hints. He should speak openly. I do not know who he means. I welcome all people who want to strengthen the UNM”.

“I have said many times and I will repeat many more times that I have a friendly relationship with these people, although I have not seen them for the last week”, said Kirkitadze.

A part of the UNM members have demanded inter-party elections in an unexpected briefing earlier this month, with Melia accepting the race, but slamming the party members for the briefing.
