The United National Movement (UNM) opposition party has released the results of its polls earlier today, which says that the ruling Georgian (GD) party will receive less than 35 percent of votes in the upcoming, October 2 municipal elections and it will have to accept the holding of repeat parliamentary elections.

According to the April 2021 EU mediated agreement the ruling party took the responsibility to accept the conduct of repeat parliamentary elections if it received less than 43 percent of votes in October municipal elections.

However, the GD has recently withdrawn from the agreement and stated that ‘no early elections will take place in the country.’

Per ruling party polls the GD will receive around 47 percent of votes in the upcoming elections and all ruling party candidates will win the mayoral race.

The UNM states that according to its polls which was conducted between August 6-11 and included 600 interviews, the UNM mayoral candidates in Telavi and Rustavi will win the race, while the GD candidates will be victorious in Kutaisi and Batumi.

The UNM polls say that the united opposition will receive more votes than the ruling party in Telavi, Kutaisi, Rustavi and Batumi.
