The United National Movement (UNM) opposition party MP Levan Bezhashvili has suggested that the MEPs, who visited Georgia this week, requested the opposition to participate in the parliamentary format with the ruling party to fulfil the EU conditions set for Georgia’s European membership candidate status by the end of this year.

Bezhashvili said Friday  that the UNM was discussing the possibility and it may get involved in the working format “not to allow the ruling party to shift blame onto them” if Georgia did not receive the status in December.

The UNM has not announced its final decision so far.

Three opposition parties ,the UNM, Lelo and Strategy Agmashenebeli, have refused to cooperate with the ruling party to meet the conditions, saying that the GD “had no genuine plans” for membership.

They accused the ruling party of pro-Russian propaganda instead. An EP delegation, led by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations, David McAllister visited Georgia on Wednesday.

The delegation included  MEPs Željana Zovko, Sven Mikser, Viola von Cramon, Thierry Mariani and Assita Kanko.
