Despite the moves of the Georgian Dream authorities to discourage Georgia’s friends and partners, NATO will not turn its back on the country, the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party MP, Nona Mamulashvili, told Front News on Tuesday.

Mamulashvili suggested that the Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili was “busy with making harmful statements” towards NATO-Georgia relations, “similar to those against the EU prior to the bloc’s decision over Georgia’s candidate status.”

Garibashvili stated last week that NATO would not be unanimous on Georgia’s membership if the country did not reintegrate its Russian-controlled Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions.

Mamulashvili stated that Georgia’s friends “understand very well that the country needs them now more than ever.”

“I was in the US and Brussels last week, now I am in London talking to our partners. Despite the great efforts of the Georgian Dream to incite our friends and partners against the country, I think this attempt will fail. It is true that our partners are very angry specifically with the representatives of the Georgian Dream government, but not with Georgia and the Georgian people,”Mamulashvili said.

She stressed that “our partners are fully mobilized to give the Georgian people a chance to return to the pro-Western, Euro-Atlantic path they had chosen.”
