The United National Movement opposition party on Friday  proposed the Government of Georgia to allow Russian tourists to stay in Georgia for only one month.

The party also urged the authorities to impose restrictions on the purchase of real estate and entrepreneurial activities for Russian citizens.

In his comments, the party member Levan Khabeishvili said that there should be a special point on the border, where the Russian citizen would have the obligation to recognize the territorial integrity of Georgia.

“16,480 citizens of Russia already have a residence permit in Georgia. The public should know that over the past six months, Russian citizens have registered more than 3,200 real estates, and  more than 6,000 individual Russian entrepreneurs set up their companies”, Khabeishvili said.

The Georgian Government had accused the opposition of “xenophobia” and stressed that they had no plans to impose any restrictions on Russians as it would harm domestic tourism.

Russia occupies 20 percent of the Georgian territory and proceeds with the creeping occupation of Georgian lands.
