US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan on Friday did not confirm the reports by the head of the Georgian Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition party, Giorgi Vashadze, that the Georgian Dream authorities had rejected the US offer to receive a military package worth of billions of dollars to strengthen the country’s self-defense capabilities after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Recent statements are full of inaccurate information, they are actually inaccurate and false,” Degnan told journalists.

She stated that the United States of America had called on all allies and partners to help Ukraine in whatever way they could, “as Ukraine fights for its own territory and sovereignty”.

“We have made it very clear from the beginning that it is up to each country to decide how to help Ukraine. We never wanted this war to expand or to put some kind of pressure on Georgia and other countries in terms of expanding the war. Our desire is to end the war as soon as possible, to restore stability and peace, and we are working on it,” said Degnan.

Vashadze claimed that the “rejected aid” meant Georgia would receive modern weapons through Lend Lease and other mechanisms.
