In a recent development, US Ambassador to Georgia, Robin Dunnigan, has voiced apprehension regarding the trajectory of the Georgian government’s decisions, suggesting a potential departure from the country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

Addressing the media via a statement released by the embassy, Ambassador Dunnigan expressed deep concern over recent actions taken by the Georgian government over the controversial foreign transparency bill, which she believed were steering the nation away from its widely supported Euro-Atlantic goals.

Key among the ambassador’s concerns was the apparent determination of the ruling party to advance legislation that has been deemed incompatible with Georgia’s ambitions for EU integration, as noted by the European Union.

Moreover, Ambassador Dunnigan highlighted the alarming trend of certain members of the ruling party directing criticism towards the United States and the European Union, traditionally “staunch supporters” of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Emphasizing the enduring partnership between the United States and Georgia, Ambassador Dunnigan underscored decades of collaboration grounded in shared values and a mutual vision of Georgia’s inclusion within the Western democratic community.

Despite the challenges, the ambassador reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to the Georgian people and their future, particularly in pursuit of a European trajectory that she said promised increased peace and prosperity, evident through tangible benefits witnessed by the populace.

Furthermore, Ambassador Dunnigan revealed that a recent invitation extended to senior Georgian officials to engage in discussions concerning the strategic partnership and US assistance was unfortunately declined by the Georgian side.

In a resolute call to action, Ambassador Dunnigan urged the Government of Georgia to reaffirm its dedication to Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic path, as enshrined in the Constitution of Georgia.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the United States’ steadfast commitment to its robust relationship with Georgia, with an earnest desire for peace, stability, and prosperity for the Georgian people.
