The recent cancellation of an invitation for Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to attend a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden has drawn criticism from Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, calling the action “trivial and lacking seriousness”.

Papuashvili on Wednesday expressed disappointment, asserting that the US administration’s decision reflected poorly not only on America but also on its people.

He suggested that such “inexplicable actions” highlighted the current state of opposition within Georgia.

Additionally, he accused the US of interfering in Georgia’s domestic politics and stressed that, despite being labeled a strategic partner for many years, the US could benefit from adopting a more hospitable attitude, similar to that of the Georgian people.

The reception will take place today on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
