The US Department of State issued a yellow card to the Georgian Dream authorities on Thursday, condemning attacks on US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan “by some officials,” MP from the opposition Citizens party, Levan Ioseliani, said on July 21.

“It breaks my heart that for the first time in the history of independent Georgia, the US State Department had to protect its own ambassador to Georgia and protect it from the government,” Ioseliani said.

“This was the case when the State Department issued a yellow card to Georgian Dream and they should think about it. If they continue like this, they will seriously affect the state interests,” Ioseliani suggested.

The US Department of State has condemned attacks on US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan by “some Georgian officials, stating that ‘”Degnan has our full support.”

“The rhetoric from some Georgian officials recently, however, seems intended to distract Georgia’s citizens from that goal. Ambassador Degnan and her team at our embassy in Tbilisi are committed to working with the people of Georgia in support of their Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Ambassador Degnan has our full support,” Spokesperson Ned Price said on Thursday.

He stated that “disinformation and personal attacks on Ambassador Degnan or her team are not consistent with how partners communicate with one another, and we will continue to focus on supporting our shared goals. We have worked shoulder to shoulder for 30 years on democratic reforms, economic development, and security cooperation. This remains unchanged.”
