The US has delivered the first two units of the NASAMS medium-range anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine, Raytheon Technologies CEO Gregory J. Hayes said in an interview with CNBC.
“A few weeks ago, we handed over two systems to the US government. Today they will be deployed in Ukraine,” Hayes said.
US authorities have approved delivery of two NASAMS units to Kyiv, but not Patriot air defense systems. According to Hayes, negotiations about them are held regularly, but the final word should be given by the administration of the US president.
On October 12, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov tweeted that a new era of air defense had begun.
“The IRIS-Ts from Germany are already here, the NASAMSs are coming from the USA. This is just the beginning. We need more. “There is no doubt that Russia is a terrorist state and protecting the skies over Ukraine is a moral imperative to save our people,” he said.
