The US Embassy in Georgia on Tuesday pledged support for turning Kutaisi International Airport in Georgia’s west into a transportation hub.

Following the visit of the US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan to the facility, the Embassy said it had a “great potential” to become a transportation hub.

“It is especially worth noting the great benefits it will bring to the farmers of Western Georgia if it also turns into an export hub for agricultural products”, the Embassy said.

The mission added it was ready to ensure aid on setting up an airplane maintenance and repair center, strengthening airport’s marketing and developing skills for the staff.
