The United States will announce sanctions against Russia no earlier than next week, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Friday.
She replied in the affirmative to a journalist's question about whether it is possible to exclude the option with the announcement of sanctions this week.
When asked whether she would rule out sanctions next week, Psaki replied: "I will not rule out anything there anymore."
At the same time, Psaki stressed that Washington considers it right to take those measures that can really change the behavior of a country.
"We should not take action until we are confident that we can actually change their behavior immediately. This is not how we see foreign policy," Psaki said when asked by a journalist about the impact of US measures on the Russian leadership.
Psaki recalled that it will take "weeks, not months," to complete work on countermeasures to Russia's actions.
