US says it has no plans of regime change in Russia after Biden’s words Putin ‘can’t remain in power’

US President Joe Biden and other American top officials have stated that the country has no plans to change authorities in Russia following Biden’s statement in Poland that Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power” for his actions in Ukraine.

“As you know, and as you’ve heard us say repeatedly, we do not have a strategy of regime change in Russia or anywhere else,” Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Sunday during a visit to Israel. “In this case, as in any case, it’s up to the people of the country in question. It’s up to the Russian people,” Blinken added.

Biden has stated that “I went to Europe with a clear message: We must commit now to be in the fight for democracy for the long haul. We stand with the people of Ukraine and we will continue to ensure Russia pays a severe price for its war of choice.”

He said that In the year before the invasion, America had sent $650 million in weapons to Ukraine — and since then, “we have committed another $1.35 billion.”

 “Thanks to the courage and bravery of the Ukrainian people, the equipment we have sent them has been used to devastating effect,” Biden said.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
