Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Wednesday said 20 foreign nationals had been deported from the country following a series of coordinated operations targeting illegal migration.

Those expelled were citizens of India, Russia, Pakistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Nigeria and Thailand. In line with Georgian law, they have also been banned from re-entering the country.

The ministry said the operation was carried out through close coordination between its Migration Department and other relevant units.

The Migration Department is the body responsible for combating illegal migration inside Georgia, including identifying foreign nationals without legal grounds to remain in the country and overseeing their deportation.
