Vakhushti Menabde, leader of the Social Democracy for Georgia movement, has accused the United National Movement (UNM) of undermining opposition efforts against the ruling Georgian Dream party through “smear campaigns” targeting rival politicians.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Menabde claimed the UNM had failed to impose its own agenda on other opposition forces and was now “sabotaging the resistance” to the government. He dismissed allegations about his family’s business ties to the government as politically motivated, saying his father’s concrete plant participated in public tenders for road construction projects without any political interference.
UNM figure Anna Tsitlidze has alleged that Menabde and his family had signed state procurement contracts with Georgian Dream. Menabde said both the ruling party and the UNM had attacked him - Georgian Dream over his international funding and the UNM over tenders - insisting this was proof his movement was “on the right track”.
