The OSCE Troika, comprising Malta, North Macedonia, and Finland, issued a strong statement today condemning the Georgian authorities for their violent response to peaceful protests by civil society, independent media, and political figures advocating for Georgia’s democratic future.

In the statement, the Troika called on Georgian authorities to immediately halt repressive actions, including arbitrary detentions and the use of physical violence.

”We urge the Georgian authorities to uphold human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in line with our shared OSCE principles and commitments as enshrined already in the Helsinki Final Act and the Charter of Paris,” the statement reads.

The Troika also demanded credible investigations into allegations of violence, election fraud, and attacks on democratic principles, urging accountability for those responsible for such crimes.

Highlighting the importance of adhering to OSCE principles outlined in the Helsinki Final Act and the Charter of Paris, the Troika encouraged Georgia to utilize the tools and expertise offered by the OSCE to address the current situation.

”We stand with the Georgian people as they express their aspiration for a democratic and European future, as codified in the Georgian constitution,” the statement concluded.
