Opposition parties that cleared the electoral threshold in Georgia’s October 26 parliamentary elections and contest the results as fraudulent have announced plans to request the OSCE/ODIHR to dispatch a “special mission” to investigate the alleged election violations.

Representatives of four political parties—Coalition for Change, Unity – National Movement, Strong Georgia, and Gakharia for Georgia—revealed this initiative during a joint press conference on Thursday.

The parties urged the OSCE and its Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights to invoke the “Moscow Mechanism,” a procedure first implemented in 1991.

They argued that this step would allow the OSCE to send a special mission to Georgia to examine the alleged election violations and pave the way for future free and fair elections.

Additionally, the parties are calling on the OSCE to investigate “violent acts committed by the Russian regime against its own population,” as part of the mission’s mandate.
