Well-known Georgian commentator, basketball specialist Jamlet Khukhashvili dies aged 78

Jamlet Khukhashvili, a well-known Georgian commentator and basketball specialist of Jewish origin, died on Wednesday, aged 78. He had been seriously ill for the past few years.

 

Khukhashvili has been a sports commentator since 1963. In 1980-1992, he worked in the Georgian public broadcaster, radio, TV Imedi, sports radio Jako, also chairing the Georgian national basketball team from 1994. He also served as the president of the Makabi club since 1990.

 

Khukhashvili was named as the best coach of Dynamo in 1986 and the best sports commentator in 2004. 

 

“Khukhashvili, as a beloved and well-known sports commentator, made a name for himself thanks to his distinctive style. His name is associated with both his personal contribution to the development of Georgian sports and its promotion. He was also a great supporter of strengthening the relations between the Georgian and Jewish peoples and an ardent patriot of his country”, prime minister Irakli Garibashvili said.
