World Health Organization expert Peter Ben Embarek says the controversial theory of laboratory origin for the coronavirus is "very unlikely."

According to the British publication The Telegraph, Embarek said this at a press conference in the Chinese city of Wuhan following the results of the first stage of a WHO study on the causes of the origin of COVID-19.

"The assumption of a laboratory incident is "extremely unlikely" to explain the emergence of the virus in humans," – said the expert.

He said that such a version is not considered among the hypotheses that the organization will recommend to study in the future.
